My mom's simple Christmas treat: chocolate covered pretzels
These white chocolate covered pretzels aren’t inherently Christmas-y, but my mom makes them every year. She whips them up as a treat at home, gifts a baggie of them to people in her life, and brings them to parties. Sweet, salty, and crunchy—Everybody LOVES them and you’ll love how easy they are to make.
DIET: Um, no / SERVES: 8-10
INGREDIENTS
16 ounce bag bite-sized pretzel rods
12 ounce bag white chocolate chips or chunks
rainbow sprinkles
METHOD
Takes about 20 minutes.
In a bowl, melt the white chocolate chips in the microwave on low for about 1 minute. Careful not to overheat the chocolate! The chips will still retain their shape even when heated until you give them a stir so don’t keep heating them up until they look smooth—they won’t.
Highly recommend doing a test melt on a small amount of chocolate so you don’t ruin your whole bag. Low heat and frequent stirring is best!
Holding your pretzel rod at an again, use a spoon to scoop the chocolate up the pretzel. Twist the pretzel and use the back of the spoon to apply the chocolate evenly.
Next, dip the chocolate covered pretzel into the sprinkles. Pro tip: if you’re chocolate is too hot, it will drip into the sprinkles, so hold your horses and wait until the chocolate is soft, but not too viscous.
Place on a plate to cool. Once hardened, transfer to a container.
In a bowl, melt the white chocolate chips in the microwave for about 1 minute.
Careful not to over heat!
Holding your pretzel rod at an angle, use a spoon to scoop the chocolate up the pretzel. Twist the pretzel and use the back of the spoon to apply the chocolate evenly.
I think it looks better to have sprinkles covering the whole pretzel, but taste-wise I prefer fewer sprinkles.
Merry Everything!
P.S. Thanks, mom!
